Looking for some sci-fi adventure
As the title says, I'm looking for some sci-fi adventure books. Ideally I want a mix of space opera and planetary romance, a book that is both about outer space travel and planetside stuff. I also want it to have some sort of action (shooting, fighting, hacking, spying, doesn't really matter), albeit not entirely focused on action. Some romance would be nice, but it's definitely not 100% necessary. There are tons of books out there that fit that, so here's the catch: I don't want it to be too simple, as in a naive plot for young adults, and neither do I want it to be too complicated, overly philosophical and slow. I'm looking for something right in the golden middle, where it has both action and some thought behind it.
Just to give a couple examples, the most recent book that I've read like the one I'm looking for was "Dark Run" by Mike Brooks, which had a nice setting, but seemed really shallow and simple. Some time before that I've read Harry Harrison's "Stainless Steel Rat" and "Deathworld" series, which seemed a lot more full-fledged, yet still lacking in some minor ways. I guess I could say that I'm looking for smth like Mass Effect or Cowboy Bebop in a book form, if you get that.
Some neo-noir would probably do just as well, like Bladerunner the book, even though it doesn't have space travel and is set on Earth. Seeing how someone might suggest "DADOES?", I do know that Bladerunner is actually based on a book, but I've already read that and it's also quite different from the movie in many ways, mainly its pacing.
I know that I'm asking for something very specific yet vague, something that even I myself am struggling to put exact criteria on, so I'm not sure if my perfect book even exists at all. I'm open to all and any suggestions though and thank you in advance!
