Hello!
A few years ago a friend wanted to start a company and I was there to help him out. I mostly did the art/design stuff. It started as a company that creates games but developed later more into software company. The company's name was "
RedClaw Production".
Every Design I once did for them was
waaay before I started my design school and knew anythign about it. So the
very first logo was done in Photoshop, I believe.
Which was this one, back then I was actually proud of it, btu now? I see what's wrong with it. Later I learned how to use Illustrator, just a bit. I also had only CS2 then, CS6 were already out at that time.
So I simplified that logo. I even made a YouTube video about my process.
Yes, I know, bad format, don't remember what happened that I messed it up, but you still can see what I did.
So! Then I started my design school, learned illustrator way way better and even got myself CC! I was thinkign about re-creating the logo and make it even look better, without the background, because that's really unnecessary, but then I heard he changed the logo. Which was a surprise to me, because he didn't involved me at all. I asked him why it got changed and his girlfriend, who's doing an apprenticeship to become a graphic designer (meaning that what I do is better) said "it doesn't look nice" and made a new one. I asked for the AI file, checked it up and was upset, because I didn't liked the way she worked at all. Two canvases, one was empty. So was teh PDF, one full page and empty page. Why?
The original PDF I got from them. And here's
a screenshot from the AI. I have a hard time believing she actually does graphic design, considering she turned the font into vectors for no reason. Looking at the layers she had only two of them. One of them was empty. It was very cluttered... So yes! I felt a bit upset that I got replaced by her. I even overlayed my logo wiht hers and it looked like she just copied it...
Anyway! He closed the company by now but I still wanted to do a new logo, just to fill my portfolio and to show how much I changed, I guess.
Here are a few sketches I made. And now the finaly work:
My new take on that. I simplified it by a lot, yet I wanted to stick to those claws.
Is it too simple? Can you recognise the claw? Or should I have sticked to the first Sketch with the three claws striking through something (and leaving a mark)?
Sorry for the wall of text, but I liked this project and would like to end it with a really nice logo. The company also had a website, which doesn't exist anymore, and
a facebook page. You'll notice that everythign is in German!
Thanks for your time to read all of this, means a lot.
