Can anyone offer assistance RE: mobile hotspots and OW?
So I'm in a bit of a tricky spot. I live way outside city limits. Far enough that cable has simply never been run to my house, and it would be prohibitively expensive to pay for that myself. Satellite is notoriously finicky, so I'm not prepared to put a significant investment into that either.
What I have been doing is using an unlimited data plan from Verizon (grandfathered in from the days when they offered that) and using my phone as a wifi hotspot. Unfortunately, Verizon recently decided to end all unlimited plans, no exceptions. So I've switched to T-Mobile, and I've gotten a decent plan with unlimited data.
It works well for most things. I can stream Netflix and YouTube in a decent quality without interruption, for example. However, whenever I try to play Overwatch or launch Steam, the programs act as if I have no internet connection at all.
I've done a lot of troubleshooting and talking to T-Mobile and can't figure out anything. What I do know is that Verizon phones have some built-in crap that basically punishes users for switching to other carriers. Putting a T-Mobile card in a Verizon phone leaves me without a lot of options, including the built-in hotspot program. What I've been using to get around this issue is a program called PDANet from JuneFabrics.
Naturally this leaves a lot of variables. I'm wondering if anyone has ever experienced any similar sort of issues, or if anyone has any ideas at all? Thanks a ton in advance!
tl;dr Verizon phone, T-mobile plan, wifi hotspot, OW wont connect.
