Just purchased FileCenter DMS Professional Plus (version 22.214.171.124), and I’m running it on Windows 10. Pretty happy with it so far, but I have a few questions:
(1) I can’t find any current Internet forums where FileCenter users can ask and answer questions. Do any exist?
(2) I’m using a Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 for scanning, and I like it. But I want to install a TWAIN driver to integrate the scanner more fully with FileCenter, and Fujitsu does not provide such a driver. Does the “SnapTwain” driver available from JSE Imaging Solutions (http://www.jse.de/products.html#snaptwain
) work well, and is it safe to install? Or are better ScanSnap TWAIN drivers available?
(3) The FileCenter user manual says FileCenter can be integrated with the open source Axcrypt encryption tool. But the download link for Axcrypt is out of date, and the current Axcrypt version is no longer open source or free. The legacy version of Axcrypt is described on https://www.axantum.com
and can be downloaded from https://www.axcrypt.net/support/legacy-downloads
. That site warns that the software is not maintained and discourages users from downloading it. Does anyone have experience with Axcrypt? Is it risky to use the legacy version? Are there better free encryption tools that integrate with FileCenter?
(4) This last item may not be a fixable problem, but rather a point of curiosity: I regularly add metadata to downloaded PDF files (Description fields, including Subject and Keywords). This is easy to do with FileCenter’s Document Properties editor. FileCenter, however, cannot edit some downloaded files because they are password-protected by the creator of the files. I can work around the limitation by using Windows or FileCenter’s print-to-PDF feature to create a new, editable document. I’m surprised, though, that I do not encounter this issue with password-protected files when I use PaperPort to edit the same metadata. Metadata in password-protected files that FileCenter cannot edit is easily edited in PaperPort. Does PaperPort have some sort of special method to make all files editable?
Thanks for any enlightenment you can provide.
